ADSL FAQs
What is ADSL?
Asymmetrical digital subscriber line. A very fast download and quite fast upload digital service used with the Internet or private networks.
What does that mean?
Originally it meant a dry copper pair of wiring (Dry Signal Line) and now commonly is considered digital subscriber line. This broadband connection uses the space for signals outside of the voice range to carry signals back to the network. Many cases are for 256K (kilobits). Now Freese-Notis has higher download and upload speeds 1,024 (kilobits) with a maximum of 25,000 (kilobits) download but more 1,500 (kilobits). These higher upload speeds are key to the advantage of ADSL compared to competing broadband offerings which run at a fraction of these speed.

- Standard range from the Central Office (the telephone facility you are connected) is 18,000 feet currently.
- DSL requires a Cisco, Gnet, Actiontec (Actiontec is not recommended for business or serious users), 2Wire and other compatible ADSL router brandsfor external connections along with 10/100 base T Ethernet adapter for your computer.
- DSL network card for ADSL internal use. We highly recommend external Cisco and GNet routers instead of other external or internal hardware for best results!
