Note from Editor: Hello all, well, as you may have noticed, I have edited some of the BIOs, slightly. In consideration of time & space, I found it necessary. If you are unhappy with the changes, or would like to make your own changes, please email me!!! Also, I know this page is rather primitive & kinda hard to read, but as soon as I find some spare time lying around, I will work on it!!! Thanks, Courtney

when the Mustangs came to Milwaukee because I love football but
it's impossible to get Packer tickets. (I think thats one of the
reasons why the Mustangs did pretty well even when they didn't
win any games). I like just about all sports (except tennis) but
I love football, and I really love it indoors. I liked seeing a
bit of a rivalry develop between the Mustangs and the Rattlers
too, the league needs games that it can build up to all season.
I got to a few games last season but my daughters took up most of my time, hopefully that will change now that they are a little older, and if it doesn't I'll take 'em with me to the games!

Well, I haven't posted in quite sometime,
but I do read the list all the time. Living in Canada, most of
the football news I get is about the CFL or the NFL, but very
little about Arena Football... Interests: I love football, any
kind! CFL, CIAU, NCAA, NFL, Arena, WLAF, and I try to keep up
with all of them as much as I can. I have web pages devoted to
the Montreal Alouettes and the Defunct Montreal Machine. I'd like
to work more on these pages, but I spent too much time on them
already. I also love Baseball, I'm a big Expos fan. I'm not a big
fan of sports on TV, I prefer to be able to attend the games, but
when there is nothing else it makes due. So as a result I went to
every Alouettes game, and about 25 Expos games, as well as other
stuff in between.
Despite being a Montrealer, I am not a huge Hockey fan, I love to play, but living in a city which treats hockey as a religion, well, I just get sick of it after a while. I am a Habs fan, but I would only go to a game if I got free tickets... as opposed to the Als and expos, you can't keep me away!
I was introduced to Arena Football by my Friend Tim, who is also on the list, and I have been hooked since I saw Albany beat the Miami Hooters in 1993 at the Knick. I've made the trip to Albany, Worchester and Hartford to see games, and I will probably be making a trip to NY this season to see Albany beat either the CityHawks or the Forest Dragons! Albany is the team I have seen the most, and I have had the opportunity to see some GREAT games! with outstanding performances by guys like Eddie Brown and Mike Perez (Sad to see him leave Albany)..
I like to collect sports memorabilia, and autographs. I even bought a Firebirds replica helmet and 10th aniversary arena football. anyway, I think I'm rambling.

MCBlueline
*****VITALS*****
LOCATION: Poestenkill (near Albany)
OCCUPATION: Anthropologist EMAIL: mcblueline@aol.com
*****OTHER INFO*****
"MCBlueline" is Mike Cahill. I've
been a hard-core Albany Firebirds fan since 1990, our first year
in the league, and a member of the list the past three years or
so. A multiple season ticket holder at the Knick the last four
years. I'm an anthropologist who works for state govt in the
field of social services. I live out in the wilds of Poestenkill,
about ten miles from downtown Albany, where the deer -- but not
the antelope -- play. Pheasants, foxes, assorted burrowing
animals, and the occasional snake (rattlers begone!), yes, but no
antelopes.
In high school, I played football -- started for three years at QB; also played some DB. In those days we went both ways, so I'm definitely on board with the Ironman concept. Also played Division I hockey briefly in college (Princeton) way back in the 70's. Hence the nomme de guerre "Blueline," even though I was a centerman, not a defenseman, at Tigertown. Somehow "MCCenterman" didn't sound right. I do follow the our local pro hockey team, the Albany River Rats (AHL). But the Birdies are first and foremost in my heart. There's nothing like an Arena Football game.
Some thoughts about our sport: Obviously, we need a major national TV contract. It would widen the game's appeal, help stabilize the league, and boost player salaries. These guys bust their butts out there, and I do think they deserve to be paid better. In the interim, I'd like to see whatever cable or regional TV monies are realized during the season spread evenly around the league. MSG and the Cityhawks won't make a dime on their TV broadcasts without an opponent to play. Whatever TV wealth there is has got to be shared now, not in the sweet bye-and-bye. Maybe this is already happening, but how would I know? I've been asking the question about TV revenues for some time, but still I get no answer. Is anyone at the league offices listening?
In my view, the game continues to be one brick short of a load with respect to its "TV-ability." Two things have to improve. First, camera angles have got to be modified somehow to "enlarge" the field. The game is too "boxy" on TV. Unnecessarily so, I think. This way mean positioning cameras to catch longer lines of action, possibly from above and to the side, and maybe with roving cams along the boards. Hockey faces similar challenges for obvious reasons. Maybe the arenaball technicians can lear n something from their hockey counterparts. Second, arena football has survived as long as it has on the craziness and excitement of the "arena experience," and to catch that wave means being at games, live, at least occasionally. TV has got to capture the experience better. This may involve showing scenes from the block parties that most arenas put on before games, interviewing or even profiling fans, and intersplicing these bits with play action -- pounding linemen, big hits, and great throws and catches. We sometimes talk about the live game as if it were merely the springboard to the "TV game," but it could just as well work the other way round. Seeing the game on TV ought to fire up viewers to go to the arenas to see games live. Attending and watching on TV have got to feed into one another better.
Speaking of block parties, arenas need to upgrade what goes on at these things. Lately, at the knick at least, they've devolved into what amount to low-rent rock concerts with a little bit of beer-drinking (!) added. Block parties ought to look more like county fairs, with games of football skill and chance for the fans (free or for prizes -- the booster clubs could organize them) -- with a little bit of beer-drinking (!) added. At the Knick, the kids used to be able to line up to try their hands at throwing a football through a tire. They loved it, and each contestant got a small prize. Why not do more of this? A kid bulls-eyeing a tire or driving back a blocking sled or having his face painted would look great interspliced with game clips. A lot better than some weaving, aging, beerdrinker (!) -- we see enough of them as it is :) [Actually, I just go home and look in the mirror.]
On a personal note: I do some photography at the games and give away pictures to the players (and sometimes their moms), usually free of charge. They love it and it's my way of supporting the team. The game is still small enough so that this sort of interchange can continue occur, at least here in Albany. It would be impossible in NFL-ville.
>From time to time, I have been made privy to various arcane ArenaBall manuscripts found beneath the seats of, or sometimes outside, the Knickerbocker Arena. The folks at the Knick archives have graciously allowed me to share these productions with the list. Blasts from the past include the 1995 "Road to the ArenaBowl" (Parts I and II) which bore a disturbing resemblance to the _The Aeneid_ of Virgil; a well-received piece entitled "The Firebird" by Edgar Algernon Toe (1996); "It was just one of those 'Dings" (1996) inspired, perhaps, by the Cole Porter tune; and a detective mystery, "The Maltese Firebird" (1996) by Dash-yl Hammend. Inexplicably, the latter work appears to have raised eyebrows everywhere. Certainly, it was received to a deafening silence. It may well be that discerning readers simply scratched their heads and wondered, "what IS this guy up to." One never knows.
Sadly, Knick archivists do indicate that new manuscripts have turned up recently. They may be ready for release after their inauthenticity has been verified.
Ahh yes, another year
of Arena Football must be just around the corner.

many of you probably know we publish many yearly statistical
books on the 4 major pro sports, have one of the most visited
sites on AOL, and do the stats for many networks and computer
sports games, among other things. Obviously I would love if we
were to do Arenaball stats, but obviously everything works from
the perspective of that their is a market to sell the stats too,
and obvioiusly Arenaball doesn't quite have the potential it
would take to make it worth starting to collect AFL stats. About
the only way I think we would is if Arena Football wanted to have
a 3rd party company do all of their stats, then we know we'd have
some income from it (and of course I'd probably be the one doing
almost all of it, since I'm just about the only guy here that
really likes Arenaball, although we have another programmer that
just started a few months ago who played in the "Ironman"
AFL-minor league in Arizona for a while, and my supervisor has
this strange obsession with the "Super Gnat" from the
Chicago Bruiser days).
