Favorites: Team: Predators Player: Wagner (honorable mention to
Mac Cody and Jerry Odom) Memory: 50-0 shutout over San Antonio in
'92. Game: '95 semifinals Orlando 56 Iowa 49. An extremely
exciting game (Orlando/Iowa always is) that was interupted on TV
for stupid post-fight interview (Tyson/McNeely) ArenaBowl: VIII
Arizona 36 Orlando 31 in the Jungle. Another extremely exciting
game. Orlando was a huge favorite, by the Rattlers played
tremendous defense. We almost scored late to tie it, either 4th
and goal, or no time left on the clock, the pass with to the
rounded corner of the endzone, where the player used the wall to
jump up in the air, but either the player or the ball touched the
railing (just the wall would have been ok), and was ruled out of
bounds. Amazing game, great finish, even though we lost, it was
as good a game as any.
What you like best about the AFL: The intensity of the fans; being right on top of the action; the players are there to play the game, not to whine about ONLY making $.5 million.
What you like least about the AFL: Lack, of credibility due to poor national media coverage.
How coverage can be improved: Sportscenter highlights, scores on the tickers CNN, ESPN2, etc.
AFL Coverage Info: TV Station: Sunshine Network
(cable throughout Florida) Radio Station: WQTM (540 AM): Marc
Daniels/Play-by-Play; Tom Morgan/Color. Pre-Game Show: 7:00 p.m.
EDT. Poor range, comes in very staticy where I live How many
games shown/broadcast live: ??? maybe 1/2 ????, probablly less
since Sunshine also covers TB and Fl Bobcats. How many done via
tape delay: Several more, on ESPN2. Sunshine always does it live
if they do it. Newspaper Coverage: Lousy in my local paper (Florida
Today), but fair to good in the Orlando Sentinel. The Fl. Today
used to have an article once a week after the game, but now only
has standings for the league.

First saw Arenaball:Was working in restuarant and kept sneaking
into bar room to watch first ever game on ESPN in '87 Since Then:
I've been, as my wife calls it, OBSESSED with the AFL, I have
around 100 games on tape, mostly the last 2 years, that I watch
occasionally, usually watch them all in order 3 months before
season. Been an Albany Firebirds season ticketholder since 1990,
never missed an Albany home game and thats pretty good since I
live 190 miles away from Albany. Have taken roughly 50 different
people to games (ran 2 bus trips a few years back) never had
anyone say they didn't like it. This year I didn't renew muy
tickets because of our new baby and because I would like to go to
see some Red Dogs and CityHawks home games along with 2 or 3
Firebirds games. Have also gone to games in Hartford (where I met
Steve Physioc and Doc Walker, the best announcers the league ever
had on ESPN),Orlando and Tampa Bay.Have to say Orlando is the
wildest.
FAVORITE TEAMS: AFL-Like Albany because I go to their games but am just a big fan of the league NFL-Cincinnati Bengals (closest Arenaball team in the NFL) NBA-Minnesota Timberwolves NHL-Don't watch to much hockey but it is a very good sport I also love NASCAR racing (Kyle Petty) One sport that I REALLY HATE IS baseball (it is simply the most BORING sport around and I don't even consider it a sport)
Use to have the same passion for the USFL but Trump killed that league BIGGEST CLAIM TO FAME IN AFL: talked to Jim Foster for about 20 minutes back in 1992 after an ALBANY game and talked to Tim Marcum on the phone.
Other interests:I run 3 fantasy league (football, basketball, and NASCAR), Really enjoy music , have about 400 CD'S, am a big fan of what alot of people call Hair Bands,my favorite band is GREAT WHITE, but I also love anything done by EDDIE MONEY or BON JOVI
What I'd like to see happen in '97 in ArenaBall:First I would like to see every team get a web site and cover team news have team stats and have an online store (just like what Albany has),would like to see more media coverage in highlight shows (Sportscenter, etc.) and in Print, would like to see each team get a local cable deal, I eventually would like a National TV deal but it won't happen this year.I hope Albany, New York,or New Jersey can host an ARENABOWL because I really want to go to a championship game. Would also like to see a competitive league from top to bottom and I think that will happen this year , last year their were some teams that couldn't compete with the top teams.I hope that during the ArenaBowl week the league will announce that Florida will move back to Miami and DETROIT (ITS A SIN THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A TEAM), Salt Lake City,Philadelphia, and Buffalo get expansion teams for next year.
Well my fingers are sore and you should know me a little better now. **********<end of entry>**********

First of all....My Favorite Team is the Iowa Barnstormers!!
What I love about the AFL: The fast action, the big exiting plays, the fans & their love of the game, the players & their love of the game, the accessibility of the players & coaches, etc. etc.
What I don't like about the AFL: The inconsistancy of the refs, the game-playing in the league offices, the people who watch it & think if it isn't NFL, it isn't worth their time & bad mouth our league, the idiots who declare "well, they must not play very good, or they'd be in the NFL"....
What I like about this list: All the GREAT info, Great fans who love the sport like I do, interesting conversations, the ability to 'hang' with other fans of 'that weird football', & many other things!

Durwood `Rock' Roquemore Memory: Ben Bennett spiking a Storm
player in the endzone Game: The NEXT Pred/Storm matchup in the
Jungle. ArenaBowl: VIII Arizona 36 Orlando 31 in the Jungle. I'll
have to agree with Jim on this one. The Preds hammered the
Rattlers a few weeks before in the Jungle. The crowd completely
took the Arizona players out of the game. They left the Jungle
with their tails between their legs (and that's hard to do when
you're a snake!:). When they came back for the big game they were
a whole different team. The Ratts outplayed the Preds who assumed
they were going to waltz to the championship and, even more
impressive, Danny White outcoached Perry Moss. A great game (that
still hurts)!
What you like best about the AFL: The party atmosphere at the games. It's just summertime football played by and for people who don't make a ton of money but just love the game.
What you like least about the AFL: The seasons are too short.
How coverage can be improved: Better coverage by local TV stations, a half an hour AFL show every week on ESPN during the season, more games being televised live, especially playoff games.
My name is Skip and I'm an AFL-holic. I knew I was getting in way over my head with this sport when I saw Ben Bennett spike one of the Storm players in the end zone several seasons ago. I have been in trouble ever since... :)
This season will be my fifth as a Predator fan and my fourth as a season ticket holder. Florida is a great state for football in general and the AFL in particular. And, it don't get any better than the "War on I-4", the rivalry between Tampa Bay and the Preds.
Since I grew up in New York State, I've also been a fan of the Albany Firebirds. I like the spirit of the fans and the players on that team. I also admire Danny White and Jim Jensen as coaches, and Stevie Thomas who is a great player and, from what I've heard, just a nice guy.
In short Arena Football is a great sport. You've
got players who play their hearts out every week for a few $100
while running full speed into walls. Now that's something most
people can identify with.

arena football: Became interested in arena football back in 1987 when league was first introduced. The game seemed so familiar to me. For seven years prior to 1987 my wife and I had lived in a small town in northeast Nebraska and both worked for the public school there. In Nebraska smaller schools play eight-man football. Arena football then seemed a natural to me. The school played on an eighty yard field and there, of course, were no padded walls or end zone nets but other than that the game was pretty much the same to arena football--plays, strategy, etc. The closest arena team to Lincoln was in Denver and had always planned to see the Dynamite but they moved to Sacramento before I got the chance. Our first game we attended was the 1993 AFL All-Star game in Des Moines. Also made it to the first ever season- opener for the Iowa Barnstormers imily and I make about four or five 'Stormer games a year--it's only a little over a three hour drive one way.
BTW: If anyone is interested, once a week I
will be posting AFL trivia questions to the group. I will provide
the answer the following week and another question. Hopefully, we
can all test each others knowledge, have some fun, and pass the
time waiting for another season.

Not a bad idea. I've not been behind any posts recently because I

instead of quantity, though I'm not making any judgements here. I
mostly listen and enjoy. Ok here goes:
Sports Interests Arena Football (Predators) NFL (Dolphins) NCAA (Gators & Seminoles) Played Safety position in high school Now play indoor soccer on a co-ed adult league Love to play basketball and softball, can't stand to watch them on TV Coach Under 10 girls soccer
Other Interests: True blue dyed-in-the-wool skeptic. Love to debate and debunk the Paranormal and other pseudosciences. Football card collecting, painting and drawing, martial arts, Dilbert cartoons, ranting (see below).
Randomness: The irritation thing about professional basketball and baseball (besides how they, especially basketball, overshadow ArenaBall in the media) is the number of games they play. It's hard to get excited about one game when they play so many. Unlike football, when you play umpteen gazillion games in a season, it's no big deal if you win one game or not. To the Preds for instance, every game is needed, but to the Orlando Magic, if we lose this game no big deal, there are plenty more chances. I can't respect a game like that. AND playoffs....it should be one game do-or-die.

Found List: After finally breaking down and getting an

Favorite Teams: Rattlers, Rattlers, Rattlers, Chargers, and
Notre
Dame. Grew up in San Diego. One of my favorite
memories was riding my

out of
the coke machines with a magnet on a string. They all had
Charger's
players on them and if you filled out a sheet, you got Chargers
stuff.
I filled seven and had a Charger's helmet.
What I like most about the AFL: The action, excitement,
speed, scoring,
the clock not stopping through most of the game, the last minute
of
every game, the great catches, the tough routes, the sounds, the
logos,
being closer to the game, and knowing that these players love
this game
and the fans.
What I dislike most about the AFL: Nothing! We will
get through this
period in its history, we'll see it become the respected sport
that it
should be, and we will have enjoyed some great football
entertainment.
What I like most about the AFL List: It's great listening

occasionally talking to all of you. Love the way most
people stay true
to the goal of passing information to each other about Arena
Football.
I can never thank the high volume people like John, Ken, Joseph,
and
Dave for getting it all out. I wish my radiation-related
list was as
clear. Also, I'm an ESTJ for all of you into that stuff, so
opinions
fly out of me to anyone who will listen.
What I dislike most about the AFL List: Occasional lack of
patience by
all of us. And, however, threads that wander so long that they
begin to
irritate people. Once in a while, it would be great to get
a few people
together at the same time, so those threads can be brought to
their
logical conclusions.

Thoughts on Arenaball: one of the Almighty's greatest ideas! I have been a fan since day one and I truly hope the league continues forever. I would like to see a Sliders episode featuring the league. Arenaball is exciting and genuine....no whiners, just hard hitting action packed football. Favorite Arena team: Terror(1) Storm(2) Favorite NFL team: Miami Dolphins
I am one of the ones who does not post. I am a big Arena Football fan and I just enjoy perusing this list every day. I live in Austin, Texas and the nearest team, of course, is the Terror of Houston. I used to have Force tix when they were around. 10th row, mid-field! Great seats!
I really don't have too much to add to this list. Everyone on the list seems to have a great deal of knowledge of the game and they all seem to have easy access to their teams. I know quite a bit about the game and I have trekked to Houston once last year to see the Preds, but for now I guess I just like sitting back and watching the list.
I do hope that the league gains respectability and prevails over the PIFL. I think the league needs to stay with a set number of teams and concentrate on marketing. They should only add new teams/markets if the teams are backed by sponsors that are willing to help promote the team.
Those are my thoughts for now.....

MORE THAN (I'm sure) YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW.... Sports Interests
AFL on the
DSS dish with DirecTv NHL, I played Hockey 12 years including for
my High
School, I also was a hockey coach for 5 years, and Officiated for
about 8
years. NFL, If I can catch a game on Sunday, fine, otherwise, no
big deal.
MILL (Major Indoor Lacrosse League) Detroit Turbos now defunct,
went out
when Mike Illitch (NHL: RedWings / MLB: Tigers) who runs Olympia
Arenas Inc
bought the Tigers and gutted everything for that teams purpose.
The Turbos
(MILL) and Drive (AFL) were shutdown. Local High School:
Basketball &
Volleyball
Other Interests: Serving the Public interest (in other-words)
Politics:
04/94 & 04/95 losses in School Board elections 11/96
Candidate for Wayne
County (MI) Commissioner for my district -- Lost the election,
but they've
really pissed me off now, and I will run in '98 check out:

it's my candidacy WebSite (if my good
friend John Golovich III, who donated it, still has it up). These
losses put
me in good company who started off not-so-well with the message
of Freedoms
and Personal Liberties. One being - Abraham Lincoln!! For those
who don't
think we have any problems in this country, well, though I wish
you no
lasting (or physical) harm, I do hope... ...you get an audit from
the IRS
(and pay for years of unjust interest) ...get railroaded (as you
will)
fighting a Traffic ticket you don't deserve ...etc - you get the
picture, or
you will if they occur
Pet peeves: -Erosion of the fundamental concepts of the AFL game
-Foster's
lost control of HIS game that we all enjoy -Owners whose only
concern is
their franchises value -BANDWAGONERS - yep, we need new teams and
fans,
those are not who I mean. Let me use the Red Wings as an example.
I've
played, coached, and even officiated hockey. I've followed and
stuck with
the Wings even through the bad years. The last few years they
were virtually
assured to win the cup, people who never knew what the hell a
hockey puck
was/is, are now all of a sudden major hockey and Red Wing fans;
yet don't
understand the game. These are the type of AFL bandwagoners of
which I hold
disdain!! I'm not perfect, and goof on the rules myself from time
to time,
but I've been there from the beginning and understand where the
principles
and concepts come from. --Other Pet peeves--The destruction of
our language
(I'm no literary great, but some people have no clue--Little
fault of their
own) from a piss-poor educational system that needs an overhaul.
We once had
teachers that cared about kids, now most care only about their
contracts and
how easy they can make it for themselves in the classroom with
aides,
computers, videos, etc... (not that all of that can't be a useful
tool).
Yes, all that about the language even though I don't care about
spell
checking my EMail, we are not writing for the New York Times and
their are
more important things to devote time to. --Last, but not least--
The
destruction of our REPUBLIC! Go read the Constitution before all
your Rights
have been removed and it becomes a completely useless document.
Well, you
get the idea!!
Random thoughts/notes/asides: I was the first to purchase Detroit
Drive
tickets. During the first full scheduled ArenaBall season I
called the
League office to find out about expansion plans and found out
that Detroit
would have a team for the second season. I had to call several
times, and
ultimately had to insist that the marketing manager take my name
and number
for when they would be informed about the team they would be
having, as they
knew nothing about it. They treated me wonderfully once they
found out I
knew before they did!!! It was great. Now that the Drive is gone
(not
really, the franchise went through Mass., was idle for awhile,
and is now in
Grand Rapids MI) I have season tickets to the Grand Rapids
Rampage since
there first year in 1998 (VanAndel G.R.MI seats 109-B,17&18).
It was at a
G.R.Rampage game that I met my wife, a match made in AFL heaven.
Soon I'll
have the whole story online on my Website http://my.voyager.net/jlenard/
but
there is just my humble beginnings of learning HTML there right
now,
including pictures of me and my lovely bride.
Something to keep in mind: Like in Detroit, a team can be TOO
SUCCESSFUL!!
(Tampa!?!) Once you rack up ArenaBowl win after win, you are
expected to do
it all the time. The fascination starts to wain in the area. If
you have a
mediocre season, ticket sales will drop. The AFL must have parity,
and the
Title needs to be spread around.
For those of you who have bothered to get to this point, I'll say...
Can't
think of anything else to throw in. Hope to Receive from ya soon.

words: open field tackling. A lost art in the NFL, Division I and
even Division II now. What I would like to see happen to the AFL:
A development contract signed with the PIFL. What an opportunity.
When Portland needs a sixth QB, they can call their PIFL

Compared to most on this list I am a newbie. I am impressed with
the intelligence displayed in most discussions and hope the anti-hockey-nasty-retort-thing
is temporary. I probably lurk more than I should on this board.
Maybe someday I will come up with a valid point to post. I enjoy
the arguments as long as it remains civil or light-hearted. You
wanna get rude, check in at the CNNSI boards where the mere
mention of the Cowboys will get you a few choice words. Lets keep
this list one of honor and respect with a dash of humor.
Thanks to pre-Cardinal regional TV broadcasting, I have been programmed to root for the Cowboys. Please don't hold it against me. I also like the Dolphins and Flyers. I played football and baseball until highschool when my lack of height finally was a factor.
I am a Rattler season tix holder for 2 years and think Arenaball is the hot trend. My first live game was an early playoff contest. We bought tix on the street and sat on the very top row. I shouldn't say sat because we were standing on our seats the whole game. I did not like Danny White as a Cowboy and I don't know why. Just one of those things. I think he has improved tremendously as an AFL coach, most notably his game plan in beating the Barnstormers without Bonner. He should have won Coach of the Year if the award was chosen after the Big Game. I hope he sticks around awhile now.
The electricity of Arenabowl XI was the most intense I have ever experienced in my limited exposure. If you taped the game look for me in section 104, row 27, seat 2. I'm the short fat guy with a Rattler hat on. I hope every fan gets to see one live. I cannot watch a baseball game on TV anymore nor sit in the upper deck, especially with the padded seats down low. I hope the future holds no strikes or work stoppages yet compensates all in the league fairly. We all want the AFL to succeed but hopefully not too hard on the fans' pocketbook expense. Another fear I have is the scheduling of games NOT on Saturday or Friday. I work weekdays and for me it is an all-nighter on gamedays. There is nothing more entertaining to me than watching the Rattlers kick ass then closing Brennans at the pool table. Of course, at is always better than under....
See you in the 'Pit......cj
